Corporations evade taxes via the Netherlands

RNW, 23 February 2012

Sixty percent of the major corporations in Portugal, Spain, Greece and Italy have formed holding companies in the Netherlands to reduce their tax burden.

According to research by Het Financiƫle Dagblad, large numbers of these countries' corporations with a turnover of two billion euros or more have been doing this since the early 1990s.

As of late, the above-mentioned nations are under substantial pressure from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund to get their tax collection systems in order.

The Netherlands recently sent three officials to Greece to give workshops on the subject.
