“… The Shift in Human Nature

You're starting to see integrity change. Awareness recalibrates integrity, and the Human Being who would sit there and take advantage of another Human Being in an old energy would never do it in a new energy. The reason? It will become intuitive, so this is a shift in Human Nature as well, for in the past you have assumed that people take advantage of people first and integrity comes later. That's just ordinary Human nature.

In the past, Human nature expressed within governments worked like this: If you were stronger than the other one, you simply conquered them. If you were strong, it was an invitation to conquer. If you were weak, it was an invitation to be conquered. No one even thought about it. It was the way of things. The bigger you could have your armies, the better they would do when you sent them out to conquer. That's not how you think today. Did you notice?

Any country that thinks this way today will not survive, for humanity has discovered that the world goes far better by putting things together instead of tearing them apart. The new energy puts the weak and strong together in ways that make sense and that have integrity. Take a look at what happened to some of the businesses in this great land (USA). Up to 30 years ago, when you started realizing some of them didn't have integrity, you eliminated them. What happened to the tobacco companies when you realized they were knowingly addicting your children? Today, they still sell their products to less-aware countries, but that will also change.

What did you do a few years ago when you realized that your bankers were actually selling you homes that they knew you couldn't pay for later? They were walking away, smiling greedily, not thinking about the heartbreak that was to follow when a life's dream would be lost. Dear American, you are in a recession. However, this is like when you prune a tree and cut back the branches. When the tree grows back, you've got control and the branches will grow bigger and stronger than they were before, without the greed factor. Then, if you don't like the way it grows back, you'll prune it again! I tell you this because awareness is now in control of big money. It's right before your eyes, what you're doing. But fear often rules. …”

Russian bear grumbles as food sanctions hit Moscow zoo

Yahoo – AFP, 8 Aug 2014

Moscow (AFP) - Russia's drastic ban on food imports from Europe has claimed it first victims -- the rather choosy animals at Moscow zoo.

Keepers at the zoo, one of Europe's oldest, are scrambling to adjust the menus for its animals, which rely heavily on Dutch vegetables and Polish apples.

"Almost all the animals eat fruits and vegetables except for those who eat fish," said Moscow Zoo spokeswoman Anna Kachurovskaya.

"Those who eat fish are also in trouble because fish is also embargoed."

With fears of rising food prices hitting poor Russians, the animals have also been caught in the crossfire of the tit-for-tat sanctions war with the West over Russian involvement in Ukraine.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday announced the embargo on most food imports from the EU, the United States and several other countries in a measure that includes beef, pork, fruit and vegetable produce, poultry, fish, cheese, milk and dairy products.

The zoo will now have to find new suppliers, in particular for celery and apples, and said it is very concerned about feeding the animals in the winter when Russian produce is not as readily available.

Russian officials have voiced confidence that new suppliers for most imported products can be found, although certain items may be difficult to replace quickly.

Apples are a particular favourite of the zoo's bears, an animal synonymous with Russia that for many symbolises the country's virility and independence.

"So the bear eats apples. It used to eat Polish apples, now it will have to eat Russian ones," Kachurovskaya said. "That is not the problem, the problem is we are uncertain about what we will have to confront in the winter."

"In general we use imported products for the animals for a variety of reasons, including their preferences as well as cost," Kachurovskaya said.

"We are looking at what we can do, but it is not going to be easy."

The zoo, a sprawling grounds in the Moscow city centre which has more than 150 wild animals, celebrates its 150th anniversary this year.

Horsemeat scandal: Dutch meat trader could be central figure

Jan Fasen confirmed he bought a consignment of horsemeat from two Romanian abattoirs and sold it to French companies

A Dutch meat trader has emerged as a key suspect in Europe's spiralling horse meat scandal following allegations that he was convicted as recently as last year for passing off horse as beef.

Speaking exclusively to the Guardian, Jan Fasen, a director of Draap Trading Ltd, confirmed he bought a consignment of horsemeat from two Romanian abattoirs and sold it to French food processors. He insisted he had clearly labelled it as horse.

But on Wednesday Dutch broadcaster NOS reported that Fasen was sentenced in January 2012 for deliberately marketing South American horsemeat as halal-slaughtered Dutch beef and falsifying documents.

Draap Trading Ltd is a Cypriot-registered company, run from the Antwerp area of Belgium, and owned by an offshore vehicle based in the British Virgin Islands. Draap spelled backwards is the Dutch word for horse.

Despite his denials, the food trader appears to be at the centre of investigations into how horsemeat entered the European food chain. In January 2012 he received a one-year jail term, NOS reported. He allegedly falsified papers to deceive customers. A second Dutch meat trader, from the town of Oosterhoutse, was given community service, NOS added.

Draap Trading Ltd delivered meat to the French company Spanghero, which in turn supplied another French company, Comigel. The Findus lasagne products found in Britain containing horsemeat came from a Comigel factory in Luxembourg. Spanghero insisted that the meat delivered to its Castelnaudary plant in southern France had arrived labelled "Beef - originating in EU". The company said: "The meat received was beef meat. This was the order that had been placed. Spanghero did not treat or do anything to the meat."

Frozen meat products were, meanwhile, withdrawn from supermarket shelves in the Netherlands, Belgium and France as fears grew that the mislabelling of frozen foods was much more widespread than Findus lasagne in Britain. "It's very much a pan-European issue now." said an EU diplomat.

The Romanians have loudly protested their innocence amid allegations that they supplied horsemeat as beef. Fasen, who bought the Romanian horsemeat and kept it at a cold storage company in Breda in the Netherlands before selling it on to Spanghero, said he would hand over all his information to the Cypriot authorities, who would then pass it on to the French. Dutch food inspectors went to the Breda warehouse on Wednesday.

"As for the Romanian supplies, they delivered 100%," Fasen told the Guardian. "When they deliver beef, they deliver beef. No problem. When they deliver horse, they deliver horse. There is never, ever horse invoiced as beef. I was 100% sure I was buying horse. We sold it to Spanghero in France as well as to clients in Belgium and Holland. It was all sold as horse. There is no issue."

He added: "Somebody made a mistake and it was definitely not us."

The two Romanian slaughterhouses at the centre of the scandal also insisted the horsemeat sent to Holland was properly labelled. Doly Com and Carmolimp confirmed they had sold the horsemeat to Draap. Iulian Cazacut, owner of Doly Com slaughterhouse, said his firm sold over 350 tonnes of horsemeat to the Cyprus company last year, at a price of €2 a kilo.

Cazacut said: "We worked for two years with this Cyprus company. They started buying beef from us a month ago but previously they only bought horse. The problem is not here, it is somewhere out there. We didn't send minced meat. We only sent unprocessed meat."

The scandal has focused attention on the murky pan-European supply chain for meat products, which stretches from abattoirs to supermarkets via mysterious offshore companies.

Offshore Secrets
An investigation by the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project revealed yesterday that that Draap Trading Ltd was registered in 2008 in Limassol, Cyprus. Its sole shareholder is Hermes Guardian Ltd, an offshore company in the British Virgin Islands. A Draap representative, Andreas Mercruri, refused to disclose the beneficial ownership of the company.

Speaking from Cyprus, he told OCCRP: "I'm sorry but with everything that is going on at the moment we are not able to comment on anything at this time." Mercruri answered from the offices of Trident Trust , a Cyprus firm that provides company formation and incorporation services on the island. Trident Trust mentions on its website that beneficial ownership information of the companies it incorporates is not disclosed to any regulatory authority

The same Hermes Guardian company is a shareholder in at least a dozen other Cyprus, Panamanian and Russian based companies.

Cyprus company records indicate a Trident Trust company as a secretary of Draap Trading while its director is another Cyprus company by the name of Guardstand Limited. The latter's paperwork points to a link with Russian business.

Authorities in Romania have suggested that international criminal networks may be involved in the opaque meat trading business. Sorin Minea, head of Romalimenta, the Romanian food industry federation, described France's consumer affairs minister, Benoît Hamon, as an "idiot" after he suggested Romanians may have been responsible for "a case of fraud".

Minea told the Guardian: "There is an international mafia ring behind this problem. I don't know who they may be, or whether any Romanians are involved. But if you think about it, there were five intermediaries so I'm sure that an international network is involved."

He also angrily dismissed the idea that recent European legislation banning horses and carts from Romania's roads had led to a glut of horsemeat: "What was said, that Romania has been slaughtering millions of horses, is a complete aberration. Romania does not have millions of horses at its disposal to slaughter. If we had done that, perhaps we would be better off financially now."

Russia suspends import and use of American GM corn after study revealed cancer risk

Daily Mail, Sean Poulter, 25 September 2012

  • The European Food Safety Authority orders review in to the research, conducted at a French university
  • Russia's decision could be followed by other nations
  • Experts at the University of Caen conducted an experiment running for the full lives of rats - two years
  • The findings found raised levels of breast cancer, liver and kidney damage
  • The same trials also found minuscule amounts of a commonly used weedkiller, Roundup
  • Both the GM corn and Roundup are the creation of US biotech company Monsanto

Russia has suspended the import and use of an American GM corn following a study suggesting a link to breast cancer and organ damage.

Separately, the European Food Safety Authority(EFSA), has ordered its own review in to the research, which was conducted at a French university.

The decision by Russia could be followed by other nations in what would be a severe blow to the take-up of the controversial technology.

Cancer risk? A farmer shows two corncobs of genetically engineered corn
by U.S. company Monsanto, right, and two normal corncobs from Germany, left

Historically, biotech companies have proved the safety of GM crops based on trials involving feeding rats for a period of 90 days.

However, experts at the University of Caen conducted an experiment running for the full lives of rats - two years.

The findings, which were peer reviewed by independent experts before being published in a respected scientific journal, found raised levels of breast cancer, liver and kidney damage.

The same trials also found evidence that consumption of minuscule amounts of a commonly used weedkiller, Roundup, was associated with a raised risk of cancer.

Both the GM corn, which carries the name NK603, and Roundup are the creation of US biotech company Monsanto.

The decision by the Russians to suspend authorisation for the American GM corn threatens to trigger a transatlantic commercial and diplomatic row.

Russia’s consumer rights watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, said today that it has suspended the import and use of the Monsanto GM corn.

Rospotrebnadzor said the country’s Institute of Nutrition has been asked to assess the validity of the study.

It has also contacted the European Commission’s Directorate General for Health & Consumers to ask for the EU’s position on the corn’s safety.

Consumer scepticism in the UK and Europe means GM corn is not on supermarket shelves here, however it is fed to farm animals, including hens, pigs and dairy cows.

corn is used to make an array of food
products including cornflakes (picture

Last week Monsanto said it did not think the French study would affect its license to export the NK603 to Europe but would wait to hear from EFSA.

The company said: ‘Based on our initial review, we do not believe the study presents information that would justify any change in EFSA’s views on the safety of genetically modified corn products or alter their approval status for genetically modified imports.’

The biotech industry and university researchers involved in GM research have mounted a major PR campaign over the last year to win over sceptical consumers.

In the past week, pro-GM scientists have been lining up to undermine the French experiments and criticise the way they were conducted.

However, a number of independent academics have praised the French team’s work, describing it as the most thorough and extensive feeding trials involving GM to date.

Mustafa Djamgoz, the Professor of Cancer Biology, at Imperial College, London, said the findings relating to eating GM corn were a ‘surprise’.

Prof Djamgoz, who describes himself as a neutral on GM, said: ‘The results are significant. The experiments are, more or less, the best of their kind to date.’

However, he said that it is now important to ensure they are repeated with more animals by independent laboratories to confirm the outcome.

‘We are not scaremongering here. More research, including a repetition of this particular study are warranted,’ he said.

The professor said it will take two to three years to get a definitive answer.

Unilever to phase out factory-farmed chicken

RNW, 15 April 2012

Anglo-Dutch food giant Unilever has announced it will phase out the use of factory-farmed chicken in its products.

In Dutch, factory-farmed chickens are commonly known as plofkip - blown-up chicken – because they are bred and drugged to grow so large so fast that they are ready for slaughter in just 42 days. Their organs and legs cannot keep up with their accelerated rate of growth, so heart attacks, organ failure and leg deformities are common.

Unilever informed animal rights organisation Wakker Dier that it plans to start phasing out the use of factory-farmed animals in the first quarter of next year, beginning with its chicken hot dogs and later following with its soups and other food products.

Unilever has told Wakker Dier that the industrially farmed chicken will be replaced with chicken which qualifies for at least one star in the Dutch ‘better life’ meat production rankings. One-star chickens are not bred as quickly and have access to a covered outdoor area.

Coke, Pepsi make changes to avoid cancer warning

Associated Press, by Candice Choi, AP Food Industry Writer, Mar 8, 2012

NEW YORK (AP) -- Coca-Cola Co. and PepsiCo Inc. are changing the way they make the caramel coloring used in their sodas as a result of a California law that mandates drinks containing a certain level of carcinogens bear a cancer warning label.

The companies said the changes will be expanded nationally to streamline their manufacturing processes. They've already been made for drinks sold in California.

Coca-Cola and PepsiCo account for almost 90 percent of the soda market, according to industry tracker Beverage Digest. A representative for Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc. was not immediately available for comment.

The American Beverage Association, which represents the broader industry, said its member companies will continue to use caramel coloring in certain products but that adjustments were made to meet California's new standard.

"Consumers will notice no difference in our products and have no reason at all for any health concerns," the association said in a statement.

A representative for Coca-Cola, Diana Garza-Ciarlante, said the company directed its caramel suppliers to modify their manufacturing processes to reduce the levels of the chemical 4-methylimidazole, which can be formed during the cooking process and as a result may be found in trace amounts in many foods.

"While we believe that there is no public health risk that justifies any such change, we did ask our caramel suppliers to take this step so that our products would not be subject to the requirement of a scientifically unfounded warning," Garza-Giarlante said in an email.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest, a consumer advocacy group, in February filed a petition with the Food and Drug Administration to ban the use of ammonia-sulfite caramel coloring.

A spokesman for the Food and Drug Administration said the petition is being reviewed.

But he noted that a consumer would have to drink more than 1,000 cans of soda a day to reach the doses administered that have shown links to cancer in rodents.

The American Beverage Association also noted that California added the coloring to its list of carcinogens with no studies showing that it causes cancer in humans. It noted that the listing was based on a single study in lab mice and rats.

That's a Smarties move! Nestle becomes first confectioner to ditch all artificial additives from its products

Daily Mail, by SEAN POULTER, 2nd March 2012

Smarties along with other Nestle
brands will no longer contain any
 additives
Nestlé has become the first major confectioner to remove artificial colours, flavours and preservatives from its entire range.

The company, which is behind leading brands including KitKat, Smarties and Quality Street, has changed the recipe of 79 products to remove suspect chemicals.

Nestlé’s Crunch bar is the last of the company’s products to have the chemicals removed as part of a programme that dates back six years.

In total, more than 80 ingredients have been replaced with alternatives, mostly from natural sources such as carrot, hibiscus, radish, safflower and lemon.

Other companies are also racing to drop artificial additives from products, particularly those targeted at children. The moves follow a Daily Mail campaign and research by British academics linking some artificial colours to harm, including hyperactivity, in children.

The Daily Mail first highlighted the use of suspect colours in products such as Smarties in 2005. It launched the ‘Ban the Additives’ campaign in 2007 following research which found that normal healthy children became hyperactive when fed a cocktail of additives commonly used in sweets, cakes, fizzy drinks and some medicines.

The colours involved were tartrazine (E102); quinoline yellow (E104); sunset yellow (E110); carmoisine (E122); ponceau 4R (E124); and allura red (E129).

Subsequently, the Food Standards Agency announced a voluntary code calling on all food manufacturers to stop using these chemicals.

However Nestlé  has gone further and removed all artificial additives from its range. The changes meant that blue Smarties disappeared for a time until a natural colouring could be found.

Smarties chocolates are amongst Nestle's most popular products

The managing director of Nestlé Confectionery UK, David Rennie, said: ‘This is a significant milestone. Nestlé is proud to be the only major confectionery company in the UK to announce it is 100 per cent free of artificial preservatives, flavours or colours across the entire portfolio.

‘To achieve this, Nestlé Confectionery and our suppliers have worked very hard ensuring we don’t compromise and we maintain the same quality and taste of all our brands.’

The firm’s research found that three quarters (74 per cent) of consumers buying confectionery now look for natural products, which includes the need to be free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives.

Sally Bunday of the Hyperactive Children Support Group, which has warned against the use of artificial additives for 35 years, welcomed the Nestlé announcement.

She said: ‘There is more than enough evidence to show that these artificial colours have an adverse effect on the well-being and behaviour of the children.

‘We are delighted to learn of the decision taken by Nestlé to stop using all artificial additives. I am sure many other companies will also decide to stop using questionable additives.’

France asks EU to suspend Monsanto GM corn approval

Reuters, Paris, Mon Feb 20, 2012

(Reuters) - France asked the European Commission on Monday to suspend authorization to plant Monsanto's genetically modified (GM) MON810 corn, the environment ministry said, as the country seeks to keep a ban on GM crops despite losing court rulings.

France banned in 2008 the growing of MON810 corn, the only GM crop approved for planting in the European Union, citing environmental risks.

Its highest court ruled against the ban in November, following a similar decision by the European Court of Justice last September, leading the government to say it would look at all ways to maintain the freeze on GM planting.

The French government's request to the EU executive was based on "significant risks for the environment" shown in recent scientific studies, the ministry said in a statement.

EU governments are divided over authorizing GM crop cultivation, with some countries like France reluctant to allow them in view of public hostility.

Denmark, which holds the rotating presidency of the EU, is seeking to revive stalled talks on allowing individual countries to decide on whether to allow GM crops.

The stalemate over GM crops has frustrated crop farmers and biotech companies, most of which have scaled back research on such varieties in Europe.

EU and US reach organic certification deal

Deutsche Welle, 15 February 2012

A new pact between the EU and the US should reduce the red tape involved in selling foods classified as organic in one region to the other. Officials say the deal will help small- and medium-scale farmers.

Agriculture officials from the European Union and United States signed a deal on Wednesday that will recognize organic certification for nearly all food products.

"This partnership marks an important step, taking EU-US agricultural trade relations to a new level of cooperation," said EU Agriculture Commissioner Dacian Ciolos in a statement.

The US and EU are the world's first and second-largest markets for organic products, respectively. US organics are estimated to be worth $26.7 billion (20.4 billion euros), while the EU's market is $26 billion.

Market opportunities

According to figures from the German Agriculture Ministry, more than 90 percent of all sales of organic food are in the US or Europe.

Officials said the deal with open up
export markets to organic farmers
"This partnership connects organic farmers and companies on both sides of the Atlantic with a wide range of new market opportunities," US Deputy Agriculture Secretary Merrigan said in a statement.

The agreement seeks to boost trade in the expanding organic food industry by reducing the number of regulations placed on companies. Companies currently have to abide by both regions' organic regulations in order to export food products.

"Organic farmers and food producers will benefit from easier access, with less bureaucracy and less costs, to both the US and the EU markets, strengthening the competitiveness of this sector," Ciolos said.

Less bureaucracy

In addition to cutting down on paperwork for food producers, the deal is also meant to help them save money as they will be able to forgo organic certification by two sets of authorities. Certification in the US can cost hundreds of dollars.

There are, however, a few exceptions to the shared standards because of the regions' differing rules on the use of antibiotics. Wine has also been left out of the agreement because European standards regarding additives do not currently exist.

Some organic apples will be
excluded from the deal
US apples and pears, which can be sprayed with some antibiotics that are forbidden for European fruits, will be excluded as will European meat and dairy products from animals treated with antibiotics. While the practice is allowed under EU organic regulations, US rules prohibit it.

The European Commission's Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development and the US Department of Agriculture's National Organic Program will be responsible with overseeing producers meet organic guidelines.

Trans-Atlantic trade accounted for 14.4 percent of European trade, making it the 27-member bloc's largest trading partner, according to EU Commission statistics.

The EU has already signed organic equivalence agreements with Argentina, Australia, Costa Rica, India, Israel, New Zealand and Switzerland.

Court finds Monsanto guilty of poisoning

Deutsche Welle, 13 February 2012

A French court finds biotech giant Monsanto guilty of chemical poisoning. This groundbreaking verdict could influence future claims.

A French court on Monday declared US biotech giant Monsanto guilty of the chemical poisoning of a French farmer. This is the first such claim to reach a French court and could lend weight to other health claims against pesticide producers.

"Monsanto is responsible for Paul Francois' suffering after he inhaled the Lasso product ... and must entirely compensate him," said the judgment from the court in the southeastern city of Lyon.

Francois Lafforgue, lawyer for the plaintiff, labeled the verdict an "historic decision in so far as it is the first time that a (pesticide) maker is found guilty of such a poisoning."

Grain farmer Paul Francois, 47, says he suffered neurological problems including memory loss, headaches and stammering after inhaling Monsanto's Lasso weed killer in 2004.

He blames the agri-business giant for not providing adequate warnings on the product label.

The court ordered an expert opinion of the effects on the farmer to establish an amount for damages.

Monsanto said Monday that it was disappointed with the ruling and would look into a possible appeal.

"Monsanto always considered that there were not sufficient elements to establish a causal relationship between Paul Francois's symptoms and a potential poisoning," the company's lawyer, Jean-Philippe Delsart, said.

Fewer chemicals used today

Previous health claims from farmers have suffered in their ability to establish clear links between illnesses and exposure to pesticides.

Monsanto is among the world's largest
agricultural biotech company's
In the Francois case, it was easier to pinpoint a specific incident - his inhalation of the Lasso when cleaning the tank of his crop sprayer - whereas other farmers are trying to argue the effects of accumulated exposures to various products.

This case harks back to a time when crop-protection chemicals were more heavily used in Europe. The EU has since banned a large number of substances considered dangerous.

Monsanto's Lasso, for example, was banned in France in 2007 following an EU directive after the product had already been withdrawn in some other countries.

Effects on others considered

The French association of crop protection companies, UIPP, said tests are done regularly to weigh cancer risks in humans.

"I think if we had a major health problem with pesticides, we would have already known about it," Jean-Charles Bocquet, UIPP's managing director, said.

Francois, meanwhile, is convinced he is just one of many to suffer effects from the pesticide. "I am alive today, but part of the farming population is going to be sacrificed and is going to die because of this," Francois said.

France's health and environment safety agency (ANSES), meanwhile, is conducting a study on farmers' health, with results expected next year.
