MOSCOW —
Russian President Vladimir Putin earned 5.7 million rubles (140,000
euros,$183,000) last year, roughly the same as the prime minister but
significantly less than his spokesman declared, government income figures
showed Friday.
The highest
earner in the list was First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, one of
Russia's richest state officials and the government's pointman on the economy.
He declared a family income of 448.4 million rubles (11.1 million euros,$14.4
million) for 2012, around half of which was earned by his wife, according to
data published on the Kremlin website.
Prime
Minister Dmitry Medvedev, whose spouse declared no income, brought home 5.8
million rubles, while Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he and his wife
together earned 11.1 million rubles.
Income
declarations are a new obligation for Russian officials which only began last
year, when Shuvalov's large income raised eyebrows and forced him to make clear
none of his interests infringe Russian law.
On Friday,
a spokesman for Shuvalov said the wealthy official was shifting his assets back
to Russia from accounts and trusts held abroad, in line with upcoming changes
to Russian law banning officials from having accounts and assets abroad.
